 French Toast Fingers

French Toast Fingers

These Fingers can be made and baked in an oven or air fryer, which is a slightly healthier option or they can be fried in butter in a saucepan. Either way, they taste delicious and go down well with a hot cuppa for breakfast. Making them this size makes them great for little hands to enjoy as well.

The best way to make sure that the fingers stay stiff enough to pick up is to use bread that is on its way out or stale. Stale bread also doesn’t soak up as much of the egg mixture, so you won’t end up with fingers that are soggy in the middle.

So instead of throwing out your old bread, try making this delicious recipe!

French Toast Stick Ingredients

Tasting like cinnamon donuts, the ingredients you will need to make these French toast sticks include:

  • Bread slices
  • Eggs
  • Thickened Cream
  • Milk
  • Vanilla
  • Sugar
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Icing Sugar
  • Maple Syrup

Making French Toast

To make in the Oven / Air Fryer

Preheat oven to 180˚C.

Cut each slice of bread into 4 equal strips and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.

Dip a piece of bread into the eggs mixture, let the excess drip off.

Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Bake in moderate oven /air fryer until golden brown, around 20-25 minutes.

Serve sprinkled with icing sugar with maple syrup.

Storing Leftovers

These French toast sticks keep well in the fridge for a couple of days. Reheat them in the microwave before serving.

They also freeze very well. Once cooled, store in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven or on the stovetop.

Make Ahead French Toast

The batter for this recipe can be made ahead, making it especially great for those who love French toast while on holidays or camping.

Just mix the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon together and store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Serving

There are multiple ways to serve these fingers:

  • Sprinkled with icing sugar and maple sugar
  • With a hot chocolate / cocoa
  • With a ‘big’ breakfast of pancakes, waffles and scrambled eggs
  • With Eggs Benedict
  • Alongside a crustless quiche
  • With a glass of green juice
