Crispy Air-Fried Tofu Bites

Crispy Air-Fried Tofu Bites

These crispy bites are so easy to make in an air-fryer, though if you don’t have one, you could use an oven. In the air-fryer, they come up so crispy without the use of too much oil which is great.

The sauce is simple and pairs well with the bites. If you have not used sriracha before, add a little at a time and taste before adding more as it can get hot. You could use sweet chilli sauce mixed the mayo instead or even just tomato or bbq sauce on their own.

Instructions

Press the Tofu

  • To press tofu, wrap the block in paper towels. Place the tofu on a plate or cutting board and put a couple of heavy books or a cast iron pot on top of the tofu.
  • Let sit, while pressing for about 20 minutes. Then unwrap and it is ready to use. You can skips these two steps if you have a super firm variety of tofu.

Tofu Bites

  • Slice the tofu in half lengthways and then into small pieces, until you have around 32 pieces.
  • In one small bowl, add the arrowroot flour.
  • In another small bowl, add the almond milk.
  • In a third bowl, add the Panko breadcrumbs, olive oil, smoked paprike, garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Taking one piece of tofu at a time, roll in the arrowroot powder, then in the milk and then in the breadcrumb mixture, making sure to coat well with each step. Repeat until all tofu is coated.
  • Set the airfryer to 175˚C and add a layer of tofu.
  • Air fry for 7 minutes.
  • Turn the tofu over and cook for another 5 minutes or until desired crispiness is achieved.
  • If you don't have an air fryer, you could bake in the oven at 200˚C for 18-20 minutes.

Sauce

  • To make the sauce, mix the mayonnaise and the sriracha together until smooth.
  • Serve immediately.
