Coffee Infused Oil

Coffee Infused Oil

Coffee is a product that is high in antioxidants which have been known to help promote skin and hair growth. When covered with a carrier oil during the process of making infused oil, these antioxidants transfer to the carrier oil, which can be used as a natural skin care product.

Carrier Oils

When making this coffee oil, you can use  your choice of carrier oil. For this batch of oil, I used avocado oil, though any carrier oils will work. Why not try:

  • Argan Oil
  • Fractionated coconut oil
  • Hemp seed oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Olive oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil

Learn more about carrier oils and their benefits here.

Using Coffee Infused Oil

Once the coffee has been infused in the carrier oil, it has a variety of uses including:

  • To help tighten and firm the skin
  • Help moisturise the skin
  • Offer some protection from damage caused by UV light
  • Promote hair growth when massaged into the scalp

This coffee infused oil can be used to make many different body care products such as

  • Lip balm
  • Body butter
  • Body scrubs
  • Under-eye lotions
  • Body Lotions
  • Whipped butter

These coffee products make ideal gifts, especially for the coffee lover in your life.

Cold or Warm Infusion?

When making an infused oil, they can be made using a cold infusion or a warm infusion.

A cold infusion doesn’t use any heat, but it takes longer to make.

A warm infusion uses a gentle heat, making it quicker to create an infusion.

Making Coffee Infused Oil

To make about 8 ounces of infused oil, you will need:

  • 1 cup carrier oil
  • ½ to ¾ cup organic ground coffee
  • Cheesecloth, unbleached coffee filter or fine mesh sieve for straining
  • Glass Jar
  • Slow cooker / double boiler for warm infusions

Cold Infusion Method

Pour the coffee grounds into the glass jar.

Add in the carrier oil. This may take a little time as the oil slowly makes it way into the ground coffee.

Make sure the oil is covering all of the ground coffee, then seal the lid.

Leave for 3 – 4 weeks to infuse.

Strain the oil with a fine mesh sieve, a piece of cheesecloth or an unbleached coffee filter and place in a clean glass jar or even a dropper bottle.

To Use

One way to use this infused oil is to pour a couple of drops onto your hands and slowly massage on your face, under your eyes or on your body.

Warm Infusion Method – Slow Cooker

Pour the coffee grounds into the glass jar.

Add in the carrier oil. This may take a little time as the oil slowly makes it way into the ground coffee.

Make sure the oil is covering all of the ground coffee, then seal the lid.

Place a towel on the bottom of the slow cooker.

Add water to cover at least half of the jar.

Place the jar in the slow cooker. Do not put the lid on the slow cooker.

Turn the slow cooker onto low and let the oil infuse for four hours.

Turn the slow cooker off, and remove the oil carefully as it will be hot.

Set the oil out to cool.

Strain the oil with a fine mesh sieve, a piece of cheesecloth or an unbleached coffee filter and place in a clean glass jar or even a dropper bottle.

Warm Infusion Method – Double Boiler

Pour the coffee grounds into the glass jar.

Add in the carrier oil. This may take a little time as the oil slowly makes it way into the ground coffee.

Make sure the oil is covering all of the ground coffee, then seal the lid.

Place the jar of oil and coffee beans into a pot for the double boiler.

Turn heat on low and allow the oil to infuse to around 4 hours.

Turn off the heat and let the oil cool.

Strain the oil with a fine mesh sieve, a piece of cheesecloth or an unbleached coffee filter and place in a clean glass jar or even a dropper bottle.
