As a Christian homeschooling family, I love to find curriculum or downloads that are written from a Christian perspective. This can be hard, expensive and quite tricky at times, but it has been made a whole lot easier with an annual subscription to the CHSH Download Club from CHSH-Teach.com!
CHSH-Teach (Christian Homeschool Hub) is an online community that is packed with educational materials for both homeschoolers and teachers. The creator, Lynda Ackert, started out as a school teacher before becoming a homeschooler, and has found a love for creating educational materials for teachers and homeschooling families.
The CHSH Download Club has over 50,000 printable pages of educational material which can be found by searching for a particular subject: Bible, Social Studies, Math, Languages, Science, Language Arts to name a few, or by the age group / age level. There are single worksheets, unit studies, lapbooks, graphic organisers, templates, flashcards, science experiments and much more. All the resources are downloadable, which means you will require an internet connection to download them and usually a printer and paper to print them off.
How did we go?
On receiving our log-in details, I literally spent hours searching the site, having a terribly hard time deciding on what we were going to do first. The Character studies were one of the first things to catch my eye, but the boys were keen on doing some other things as well.
Eventually, we decided on the ant lapbook, the Ancient Egypt Unit Study and the Viking Unit Study which was then to be followed by the Character studies.
Containing 69 pages, the Ant Lapbook is aimed at children in grades 1 – 4. Our boys really enjoyed learning about the life cycle, the anatomy, the different breeds, their homes, food as well as many more interesting facts about ants.
After learning about ants, we headed off to Ancient Egypt.
This Ancient Egypt Unit consists of 130 pages and contains information on Egyptian history, time periods, beliefs around the afterlife, mummification, pharaohs, Book of the Dead, hieroglyphics, gods and goddesses and related vocabulary. There are notebooking pages as well as lapbooking pages. This unit is aimed at children in 4th – 8th grade, so to keep it easier for our 9 year old boy, they completed the lapbook together.
After this, I happened to stumble onto the Viking Unit. Our boys are really into How to Train your Dragon at the moment, and as this is set in the Viking era, they were really keen to learn more about Vikings.
This 153 page unit is also aimed at children in grades 4 – 8. Again, they chose to complete the lapbook together, learning so much about the Viking lifestyle. At the end of the unit there was a Viking toilet roll craft and a viking boat craft which they loved making.
Currently we are completing the Character Studies. Each week, we learn about one character trait by completing the activities in the printable pack as well as reading a book with a character who demonstrates that trait. This printable is so much fun, with the bright, colourful illustrations and plenty of room for you to delve as deeply into the character trait as you wish. You can preview the first one, Grateful, on the freebies page, as well as many other fun printables.
We have really enjoyed our time using the CHSH Download Club and found it to be a valuable resource to our homeschool. It already contains loads of resources on a multitude of topics, with more continually being added. And, all of the products we have used so far are well written and engaging, which I think is quite important.
Today, I have shown you just some of the hundreds of resources available as part of the CHSH Download Club. And with just $25 for an annual or $99.99 for a lifetime subscription, you could have all of this at your fingertips too!
