The boys have been interested in learning about catapults, so we decided to try and make one. Boys just love shooting things across the room and with a catapult, they could enjoy throwing things across the room and then measure the distance they object had travelled. The boys had a great time helping make it and absolutely loved using it.
What you need:
milk bottle lid
First make a square of paddlepop sticks and secure corners with rubber bands.
Make 2 V shaped pieces and secure them with rubber bands and then invert and secure one onto each side of the base square.
To strengthen, add 2 cross members, one on the top and one about 1/4 way down. Then secure you lid onto a paddlepop stick (using glue or tape) and then secure that with a rubber band onto the bottom brace.
Yes it did lean slightly, but it still worked. We catapulted a few things off and then measured how far
Then they found that they could fling the rubber bands off the top of the dining room
chairs and they had a contest to see how far they could fling the rubber bands.
