On Thursday we found we had a few empty cartons laying around, so decided to make a cash register out of them and set up a shop.
After cutting the long thin side out of one of our cereal boxes, we glued to cardboard boxes together to make the bottom and the top.
Then we glued the bottoms of two egg cartons onto these first boxes to make the keys. I wrote the numbers for the buttons onto some white stickers and the boys stuck them onto the bottom of each of the egg spots.
We then painted the cash register as well as one of the top of the egg cartons, which we used to hold the money, sliding it in and out of the whole we cut earlier in the bottom cereal box.
We used ‘play money’ in it, and made our own little shop in the garage.
This was a fun craft activity as well as a good way to learn about money and adding/subtracting for change.
