Balloon Hovercraft

Since the first time we saw the balloon hovercraft, we have wanted to try them out. Our problem has been getting the pop top lids as we don’t usually buy drinks with this type of push up, pull down lid. Coles had the powerade bottles half price and they had the lid we needed, so I purchased two for hubby to take with him when he played golf.

Balloon Hovercraft

Once I cleaned the lids, the boys and I gathered all our materials and set to work.

You need:

* a balloon

* an old cd

* a pop top (one that can be pulled up and pushed down)

* hot glue gun

* a big flat surface like a table or tiled floor

What to do:

Using the hot glue gun, glue the around the bottle of the drink bottle top and place it over the hole on the cd. Make sure that the seal is air tight.

When the glue is dry, blow up the balloon.

Making sure the cap is closed, twist the bottom of the balloon and attach it to the top of the bottle cap.

Place your hovercraft on a flat surface and open the lid.

Give the hovercraft a little push and see what happens!

We made two hovercrafts so the boys could race them.

I tried to take a photo of the hovercrafts in motion, but they ended up too blurry.

We found that the bigger the balloon, the better they travelled. The winner of the races was always the one with the biggest balloon as well.

    I am sure your boys LOVED this activity! 🙂 It looks like it was a hit! Little Bee loves balloons, so I need to give this a try. Pinned!
